How to play
Every board hides exactly one fox in each row, each column and each colored rug. Some tiles start open and show a number: how many foxes hide in the eight tiles around it.
- Tap a tile to set it aside when you know no fox is there. Tap it again to bring it back. Press and drag to set aside several at once.
- Double tap a tile to peek underneath. A fox is found, and the tiles around it open with their numbers. Leaves mean no fox was there, and an acorn rolls away.
- Find every fox to finish the level.
The ? button during a level shows the rules again.
What are the acorns?
Each level starts with three acorns, and a wrong peek costs one. Finish with all three for a perfect clear. If the last acorn rolls away, Try again plays the same level from the start, turned and recolored. Every acorn you keep at the end of a level drops into the acorn track, and a full track opens a gift.
What do the helpers do?
- Peek: drag a lens over the board and see any fox hiding under it.
- Sniff: the fox sniffs out a tile with no fox and sets it aside.
- Tidy Up: sets aside every tile your found foxes rule out (their rows, columns and rugs).
- Hint: shows the next step you can work out, and why.
- Rewind: takes back a wrong peek and returns the acorn, right after it happened.
You start with three of each. Gifts from the acorn track and from your streak bring more. Helpers are for levels only; the Daily Challenge has none.
How does the Daily Challenge work?
- A new board appears every day at midnight, your local time, and it is the same board for everyone.
- You get one try. It counts from the moment you start, and the clock runs while the board is on screen.
- There are no helpers and no restart. If all three acorns roll away, the day's try is over.
- If you use Game Center, your time goes on the day's leaderboard.
What is the streak?
Finish a level or the Daily Challenge and the day counts toward your streak. Now and then the streak brings a gift.
What does the tag on some levels mean?
As a Tricky or Super Tricky level starts, its name shows on the level for a moment, so you know a harder one is coming.
Where is my progress saved?
On your device, automatically, as you play. Nothing to sign in to.
Does my progress move to my other devices?
Yes, through iCloud, if you are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each device. Progress merges, so the furthest level and your best results from every device are kept.
I got a new device. How do I get my progress back?
Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account and install Peekafox. Your progress arrives through iCloud. Without iCloud, progress lives only on the old device.
Settings
Tap the gear. Sound, Haptics and the Daily reminder each have a round switch. Colour help steps through Off, Patterns (a pattern on every rug) and Colour blind colours. The theme follows your device, or pick Light or Dark. During a level, Settings also has Restart level.
Does Peekafox need the internet?
No. It plays fully offline. iCloud and Game Center catch up when you are back online.
Privacy
